“Nonviolence.”
My heart turns to nonviolence today. Also a commitment not to listen to another talk or argument on guns, for or not for. Throughout our human history guns have been used for good and evil. It is how we use these instruments of potential power. Furthermore, as you and I have come to know, power is an inside energy we choose to apply for good.
Meanwhile, turning to an act of violence and how as a society we want to add to the solution of a more peaceable community of people. What gift or quality do we want to express and be a presence who brings non-aggression, friendly and agreeableness into our world?
Today I went to a hospital cafeteria and went to the cook who stood behind a hot grill cooking eggs. First I was grateful for him. Secondly I asked for sunny-side up. He replied he doesn’t do sunny side up–he fries eggs.
Consequently, I thought within for a moment thinking how diligent he was to be working in Houston behind a hot grill as the cook. I then replied, sure fry me two eggs. He said do you want me to scramble them. No I responded just fried.
Without a doubt, the result was I got my sunny side up eggs and he kept happily on serving other customers. I agreed with him and did not argue over terms. In this way I contributed to his day and he kept merrily on as a cook. I felt good inside as a result, too.
I figure there is much disagreement and discord in the country now. I want to bring acceptance, love and enrich peoples lives even in little ways as with the cook. I live a happier life as a consequence.
A good friend who was born in Texas and moved away in her twenties was feeling sad about the episode of another school violent happening again in the news. Her answer was to bring something of beauty to mind like a flower, waterfall or hiking on a path filled with wildflowers everywhere the hiker set their eyes on.
Thereafter, she went forth from there as a peaceable person, contributing to an atmosphere and environment of equanimity and good-will to all.
Remember John Bradshaw and his self-help workshops on healing our family of origin wounds and couple issues on poor communication skills and intimacy challenges. He was a great success.
To illustrate, his power source came from within himself when he initially had to ask for help and checked into a hospital. He was an alcoholic who decided he wanted to become free from alcohol addiction. He did and as a consequence gave his gift to the world of empowering others to overcome childhood blocks, negativity and couple snarls and disfunctions.
I knew a divorce attorney at a church I used to attend. One day he made up his mind to help couples stay together or at least learn to go through divorce without destroying oneself or the other in the process.
Thus, to separate agreeably and begin their new lives separately not hating each other but wanting the best for one another. The divorce attorney gave his gift of teaching a program for a non-aggressive divorce and a friendly breakup. He was successful and helped many couples separate with grace instead of greed and animosity.
Let’s keep inspired by remembering the beautiful aspects and people in life who daily do terrific things to add joy and wholeness to folk’s lives. To know our unique gifts and talents, these special ways we add upliftment, encouragement by agreeing with the good inside ourselves and in people, adding to their day, even to express by accepting and appreciating someone for being themselves.
We can give an audible or silent thank you for the tireless efforts of others we meet during our day.
In this way, we are the solution, giving peace for aggression and agreeableness in the place of disagreement. We exude love in the place of hate or comfort to someone who is in stress. We have powerful gifts inside of us. As and when we give these resourceful qualities that lie within, everybody wins. For we recognize the winner and overcomer indwelling each person. And so it is.
