“Day of Humility”
“Day of Humility.” Today we can honor Maundy Thursday by choosing to make today a day of humility. I believe giving birth to our son, then raising him along with my husband has been a humbling experience. Sometimes it is thought parents are to have much knowledge. Well we have acquired a lot. Yet as parents and individuals living on this Planet with 7.7 billion people, we may each be unique expressions yet we do not know it all.
It is in learning, discovering our talents, loves and individual charm and specialness that we thrive. Then too, we thrive when we learn from others, respect each other for who we are and how we may see things differently from one another. That is healthy and to be honored not hesitant about.
We learn sometimes the most from people who think polar opposite of the way we do. It takes humility and being grounded in our own self-hood to accept others even if they have opposite or unique views on things.
We can take Jesus actions on Maundy Thursday with the washing of the disciples feet–as a very humble activity. Likewise, he bravely faced life regardless of what life would bring him. We can see through Jesus teachings and how he chose to live, humbly, with integrity, and meaningful purpose he did not fear life he embraced it and did what was called for at the time. Paraphrasing what Jesus said: we can do the things he did and even greater things we can and will do.
We have the capability within to appreciate who we are and act with humility. Certainly we have already acted with humility in our day to day living. Each time I know I’m expressing humility it feels good. This quality is not demeaning, it is uplifting. I have stopped many an argument from happening by expressing humility and listening to the other person’s point of view.
There is an anonymous quote that says: “Humility will open more doors than arrogance ever will.” This day has been given to us to live it the best we can. When we express the quality of humbleness I believe we are happier souls. So enjoy the expression of modesty, feeling good about ourselves while we value others regardless of their nationality, length of their hair, looks or socioeconomic status.
When we are humble we express simple acts of sweetness and do not worry about who’s turn it is to pay. We pay and give a good tip. We enjoy being humble and know their are no tasks or jobs too great or menial for us to do. Even washing dirty, dusty feet. Happy Maundy Thursday and Easter weekend everyone!
