Prayer’s Essence, Part 2
We are continuing with prayer’s essentials with a conversation on the next aspect of deepening prayer–Meditation. While we have relaxed the mind, emotions, physical abode and anything needing comforting peace, concentration follows relaxation. In relaxation there is a turning from the outer to the inner power of divinity. The focus begins to concentrate on holy things, on opening a way for direct communing with divine Spirit, which needs our openness, allowing spirit to be heard through us and to bless us richly.
To illustrate, when the prophet Elijah was facing great challenge in Israel with the dilution of false Gods being introduced in place of Jehovah, the one God, Elijah felt the calling to do what he could to keep Israel from weakened faith and a continuation with the worship of the true God of Israel. Needless to say, Elijah had to dig deep inside himself and align with the true Source of Life, the holy of holies within. On the mount Elijah finds his Source of Power and renews in Oneness with God.
However, Elijah does not find God in the world nor in the outer elements. After the wind, the earthquake and fire then comes the Still Small Voice Elijah so needed to hear and revitalize with. Even in the midst of the clamoring of outer disturbances, Elijah stilled within himself and heard God–the movement of the Divine took place. He received instruction and became reenergized in doing what he knew he had to do to save his beloved God and Israel from Baal worship.
A meaningful story for us in our active prayer life as we open the way within for the messages of the highest and the best of Spirit to make itself known to us. We need to keep reminding ourselves we are not new to communing with our Divine nature. We have been at this since before time began. God knows us and we know God–have faith in your intuition, guidance and inner knowing ability.
We gracefully step forward once the mind is situated in spiritual truth and poised for becoming still to anything other than the pure desire to know God and let the divine communication happen……………………. This is called meditation, we are receptive and ready for the Silence–where the communication of divine spirit occurs. This step or part of prayer is when our spirituality rises within us and feeds us just the whole and divine nutrients we need, the invisible and visible sustenance. Meditation, still times tuned to spiritual light and silent purposeful moments to know God, bring forth through us our ever expanding spiritual nature. Meditation is powerfully Spirit filled and essential.
After the still small voice Elijah received information-instruction from God. He had a realization come through him. We do to in our times of the meditative silence. It is unpredictable what we will and how we will receive it. Sometimes it is the greater assurance we need to move forward–and we know now we are not along when we step out of our perceived comfort zones. We may hear a still and small voice telling us it is not time yet. Uppermost, we know we are in Oneness with God and we have greater confidence in living our life from here on.
During and-or after meditation, we know the meditation has brought us into divine and holy space and communication. The spiritual avenues have been opened and attuned Godward. We have a true realization of spiritual value and worth. We feel more stable and solid inside and out.
In wrapping up part 2 of “Prayer’s Essence,” let’s have some moments of prayerful focus:
I am relaxed and attentive to Spirit and things Divine–open to be fed by divine Infinite Spirit.
I rest and attune to the Silence of inner communing………………………
I listen in prayerful stillness…
After a minute, a few minutes, five or ten minutes or what length small or great is a personal choice–what is important is a responsiveness and willingness to the spiritual silence, letting God communication occur.
I immediately feel closer to spiritual power and direction, knowing I am guided, prospered and protected. I am also so appreciative for divine visibility, understanding and closeness. Thank you dear holy spirit for being active in me and in my life, Amen.
