She is a feminine month, the fifth month of May. Her name evolved from two goddesses, the Greek and Roman goddess Maia. The Roman goddess Maia meant large and expansive growth, relating to the vigorous nature of springtime.

A beautiful and colorful month displays an abundance of greenery everywhere. May’s warmth brings blooming flowers, fields of corn and other farmed landscapes of growing crops. In May it is common to see freshly planted herb gardens, lush residential landscapes and roadsides and fields dotted with wildflowers.

Besides there is an abundance of holidays in May with only one federal holiday—May 30th, Memorial Day. There are at least three fun holidays, May 26th, World Lindy Hop Day or Jitter Bug Day. The holiday commemorates Frankie Manning one of the creators of this form of dance which originated in Harlem, NYC.

Also, the two other fun holidays I’d like to give recognition to: May 7th is Herb Day and May 20th, ‘Be a Millionaire Day.’ Organized in 2006 by the Herb Coalition, Herb Day is the first Saturday in May. So calling all aspiring herbal gardeners, growers of herbs, cooks, culinary chefs, manufacturers of herbal supplements and ordinary lovers of herbs — we are grateful for the herbal seasoning, fragrances herbs add to a variety of food dishes, the medicinal benefits of various herbs and the joy of the scents and flowers from herbal plants.

Be a Millionaire Day, May 20th, is the fun time to dream of being a millionaire or celebrate if you are one. Along with dreaming about having a million bucks if you desire, begin to make plans on becoming a millionaire. It is one of the delightful purposes of the day. As well, it is an ideal time to wear your good things you save for special occasions. Wear the best jewelry, clothes and visit places of elegance to feel the flavor of rich whether you aspire becoming a millionaire or not.

Likewise, we enjoy the full flower moon on May 21st with the look of fullness the day before and day after this Mother’s full moon.

Other stand out holidays are May 5, Cinco de Mayo Day celebrating the Mexican culture and heritage. May 5th is also National Day of Prayer. Please assert with me the day belongs to all various religions, including the many Christian expressions and other religions of the world.

In addition, May 6 is national nurses day, nurses and nurse practitioners and includes the many specialized nursing fields. Thank you nurses of the world; you are so appreciated for your expertise, giving and loving nature!

Best of all holidays is Mother’s Day on May 8th. Happy mother’s day to all mothering types, male and female, maternal mothers, mothers to many wonderful pets, animals and the plant kingdom—plus surrogate mothers expressing nurturing love, stepping up and assuming the mother role. We salute motherly love inside every person everywhere.

Furthermore, May 21st is Armed Forces Day in appreciation to all those individuals called to serve and contribute to the Armed Services.

With interest in religious ceremonies, we recognize the ‘Corpus Christi’ holiday (non-federal) on May 26th in honor of the Holy Eucharist, or more commonly called Holy Communion.

Have a super and colorful month of May, especially enjoying the fun holidays and other opportunities throughout the month to be playful and recognize the special ways and avenues people generously contribute and serve humankind and one another.
