We can feel troubled. Sometimes we ruminate over a hurt or unthoughtful act of another. Other times we may think we are closed in or as if the events of life are overwhelming. Pema Chodron in her writings refers to a “space (permeating) everything.”

We know this space particularly when we are outdoors. We also sense a space when we go apart to pray or for some alone time. When we are by ourselves, we might feel the space, or surroundings we are in as supportive and non-judgmental, neutral.

On one occasion when I was entertaining unforgiving thoughts about my sister, it was frustrating. I couldn’t shake off the unforgiving feelings until an intuitive prompting guided me outdoors. I took a brief walk in the night air and looked up at the sky. Deeply I drank of the open space. I handed over every unforgiving thought and feeling; I surrendered them. The awe-inspiring night sky cleansed me of all unforgiving notions. They evaporated in the immensity and transcendent space. Any negativity I held toward my sister, transformed as I deeply communed with timeless space, having no condemnation and in absolute freedom.

We each have access to a supportive space, wherever we are. When we recognize the resourcefulness of life and how it upholds us every moment and wherever we are, we renew in the presence of the ever-available, all-healing space.
