Blooming April
Seasonal Message: “Blooming April” —
April ‘s name most likely comes from the Latin word Aprillis. Our fourth month was coincidently the 4th month of the ancient Roman calendar. In addition and according to Oxforddictionaries.com, the Old English name for April was Eastermonab or Easter month.
In April 2016 in Houston, Texas, we are alive with the full flavor of spring. However, unless we are a southern state spring may not be in full bloom quite yet. Nevertheless, it has begun in most areas of North America.
There is nothing quite as spectacular as spring unfolding with new life pushing forth: The shining and delicate leaves, the brilliant flowers, and new grass growing in lawns and fields. Farmers are busy with planting and caring for prepared fields. While homestead gardeners have worked their gardens and anticipate the flowers, vegetables and other assorted little seedlings to mature and become ready for their kitchens.
Never mind April’s fluctuation in temperature and mood, nature is a-buzz with bees, birds, butterflies, deer and other insects and wildlife enjoying the pleasure of fresh food, spring flowers and new greenery. Likewise, with the warming soil and weather will come abundant seasonal produce to eat and happier bodies to enjoy the outdoors more comfortably.
As well, the fourth month of the year has some stand-out holidays and observances. First is the 18th when taxes are due. *Earth day along with the full pink moon are on April 22, a day to appreciate nature and literally do something to preserve her beauty and care for her welfare. The 27th of April is Administrative Professionals day in recognition of the service and abundant tasks of administrative workers of all kinds. The day previously was called national secretaries day. With progressive job title changes, the day of honoring professional administrative and office workers was renamed.
To emphasize spring and the importance of nature, Arbor day falls on April 29th. Another day to plant a tree, shrub or create a flower garden. Also it is a time to extend love, hugs and tender care and gratitude for each tree, shrub, bush, etcetera regardless of its size, shape, color or location–a day to vibrate love to our trees, foliage and plant kingdom everywhere.
