There are many opinions flying now from government leaders, religious and clergy communities, United States citizens and political leaders across our Country and beyond.  In addition, there are words, positions, emotional responses and dictates coming from everywhere and many people throughout our Country and other countries.

In any emotional issue, one of our first spiritual obligations is to return to God and to our heart center, be calm, poised, breath and respect the numerous opinions, premises and points of view. There is plenty of agitation. I do not want to add to the fervor. I want to support the highest and best resolution to a challenging border situation.

Furthermore, one such premise touched me when I heard Jeff Sessions read from Romans 13. Of course he has a right to his way of viewing the current USA border law. Yet, I differ somewhat from his interpretation of Roman’s 13. First, he read only the first lines of Romans 13. (Please know I respect Jeff Sessions as a lawyer and as the current Attorney General). I do see however another interpretation of Romans 13.

If we continue reading Romans 13, the writer shifts from Letter of the law to the Spirit of the law. He brings in divine love and as love pertains to the Spirit of God’s law in Romans Chapter 13, Verses 8 through 10. The writer of Romans 13 brings in God’s Law of Love.

As I read these verses, I am touched by the Spirit of Love’s Law, which Jesus taught, and what the power of divine love can accomplish. In the Spirit of the Law of love we follow the highest good for all. We strive to do no harm, to be neighborly and have compassion when people are in distress and have nowhere to turn but the hope America has offered for so long.

As some of you know my own father was welcomed as an immigrant from Germany, fleeing the new leadership of Hitler. My dad had a wise sense to get out. He was determined to go to a shining place where he could own farmland, marry and raise a family.

With certainty, he had great hope which was rewarded when he was welcomed at Ellis Island in 1929. He became a proud American and a blessed citizen just as fast as he could.

I understand we need to do right for our citizens. And yet all too often we have needed help from world leaders and assistance and expertise from other countries. Besides, we offer our help, talents and know-how to other countries in their times of need.

We must not give into a false law that says there is only so much good, so much prosperity or jobs to go around. Or, we must hoard or isolate, take care of our own. Yes we do. Then, the prosperity law is “Give and it will be given.”

As we give, open generously we are provided for in abundance. By the way, there is an abundance of money, much room, land, opportunities and jobs in the United States. This is the truth. There is nothing to fear except erroneous beliefs.

The Spirit of the Law is what Jesus turned to and rose from. He taught we are to do the same. He became spiritualized in God’s essence and power. He rose above human law and overcame through the Spirit of Divine Law. The Letter of the Law crucified Jesus when he had done nothing wrong in God’s sight.

Let’s individually strive to balance the letter with the spirit of the law. Read the fullness of the Bible. Take what it is saying into prayer and into your inner intuitive light and understanding faculty inside. Love crosses out hate and fear. And love triumphs over misery and small thinking.
