If we want a better life, let’s first appreciate what is good in our lives and in ourselves at the present time. Mary Baker Eddy has a hint to a grander life: “To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, today is big with blessings.” The sustaining infinite is God, the divine Presence everywhere and at hand within us and as our spiritual expression inherent.

Hence, we want to encourage our engagement with the divinity that inwardly resides. As we do, more of an unattached love, clearer wisdom, greater ambition to do what we love and be authentic and ourselves will increase in us and in our lives.

What of the spiritual do you desire to partake of? Is it time outdoors preparing or planting a garden? Is it taking a meditative walk or reading from a favorite mystic? Perhaps the yearning is to be more playful; breathe instead of becoming angry; take a time out when we feel pressured or tired.

A better life includes following the impulse to be generous, to follow the urge and give an extra five dollar tip or more. A prosperity truth in the Bible New Testament says: “Give and it will be given.” It is a law harmonious with abundance.

In addition, improved happiness may come from hugging and showing more affection to our loved ones, appreciating our friends more.

A more fulfilling life does come from being open to feel and see more of God in ourselves, in our lives and in each other.

Be who you are today. Do something that especially appeals to you to improve the world in some small way. Let yourself go and enjoy the treasured moments of being self-aware—which is understanding there is more to life than earning money and material acquisitions. Even though, both are fine.

What makes for lasting happiness? Expressing and doing what uplifts, changing someone’s day for the better, laughing along with someone, listening to the light within, escorting us into a better life.
