A song written by Lanny Wolfe is titled: “Surely the Presence of the Lord is in this place.” Do we believe God is in the very place where we are? Is God’s presence and power within us or outside of us? Am I to believe what I read about God or what I feel is true?

Thank goodness the Divine, God is where we are. Praise the Truth that tells us in Luke 17:21: “…the Kingdom of God is in the midst of you,” Luke 17:21 RSV. In addition the NRSV Bible states in Luke 17:21: “The kingdom of God is among you.” These two versions state two identifications of God’s presence, in us and with and around us. Midst is defined in Dictionary.com as denoting the center, the core , middle and heart. Now, what are we to believe?

The Truth comes from within you as wisdom, intuition, a knowing or a hunch. Knowing something may come through study, contemplation, by communication with others, hearing the voice of intelligence or truth within you. It may come as a flash of insight through you or as an affirmation rising up from inside your being.

However a truth does not become real to us until we feel it or have an experience of it. Reading and hearing about something divine, spiritual needs to go a step beyond to actual involvement. We want to dance, become alive with the presence of God.

In the book by Brother Lawrence entitled “The Practicing of the Presence of God,” the monk sincerely wanted to realize the presence of God in his life. He earnestly kept his mind on the Divine. He dedicated the menial work in the kitchen and around the monastery to knowing God and as performing Divine work in whatever he put his hands and efforts to.

Finally through persistence he not only felt the Divine Presence and Power, he realized he was one with God and the spiritual presence was interwoven with him. He realized God was everywhere and in everyone.

In Prayer — I practice the presence of the Divine now and in all I do. If I forget, I begin anew in the moment and open to feel and know the Omnipresence of the Divine. A poem by Frank B. Whitney states in “God and I:” “I walked with God, God walked with me; But which was God, And which was me?” And thus I found The Truth profound; I live in God, God lives in me.”
