The other day I went to our local family farm. The attendant who served us was the brother of a woman who has much college and reads extensively. He began comparing himself to his sister and remarked how she is the brainy one of the siblings. His demeanor slumped along with his words reporting his inferiority as contrasted with his sister’s abilities. I was astonished at how the act of comparing affected his voice, body and attitude, tumbling into a downward spiral.

Such is the result of comparing ourselves to anyone. Whether we rate ourselves better or inferior to another person, when evaluating someone else’s accomplishments and abilities, then measuring them to our own, we lose. We either set them up and us down or put them down while we inflate our opinions and egos.

We lose when we are outer based and judging by appearances. It is the uniqueness of each individual and our particular blessings and talents we bring into expression that matter. When we look for the gems in ourselves while speaking well of the outstanding qualities of another we honor and lift up. Light can flow within us; we circulate radiant energy within ourselves and out into the world.

Without hesitation, we can highlight our inner gifts while appreciating the special traits and talents of another. It produces happy feelings and brings out the incredible capabilities within individuals. Consequently, we are each valued, respected and important.
